Westfield onwards
Westfield shopping centre will be a springboard to growth
Construction of the £200m Broadway shopping centre by international developer Westfield will make living or working in Little Germany even more attractive.
The new shopping destination will have the effect of re-joining Little Germany and the Cathedral Quarter to the city centre. It will be an excellent example of 21st century shopping side by side with 19th century architectural grandeur and industrial heritage.
Clearly, the Westfield scheme is not only key to the overall regeneration of Bradford city centre but it is also closely linked to Little Germany’s future and connectivity.
Little Germany Action Ltd has established a good working relationship with the Westfield team and both organisations understand and accept the need to manage the interface between the two areas as effectively as possible.
The opportunity to create street level vibrancy on Well Street as the meeting point between the two areas will ensure that this relationship is achieved.
Following Bradford Council’s decision to approve Westfield’s latest plans for the shopping centre it is hoped construction work will recommence during 2012, building on the solid foundations already in place on land bordering Forster Square.
Little Germany Action Ltd will continue to liaise with the developer in a bid to ensure that the close proximity of Broadway to the urban village and the Cathedral is used to full advantage once the new shopping centre is open for business.
